The Most Successful Apps Made in Berlin (2026)

Search for "apps made in Berlin" and you mostly get lists of app agencies or tourist apps. Yet Berlin is one of Europe's biggest app hubs, and some of the most-installed apps in the world ship from a Berlin address. For this ranking we went through the Google Play top charts and matched every app to the developer listed with a Berlin address in the Play Store. Data as of September 2026.

How we ranked

We use Google Play's public install brackets (for example "100M+"). They count lifetime Android installs worldwide. Apple publishes no download numbers, so iOS is not part of the ranking. We count the Berlin developer address shown in the Play Store. That does not always mean the whole company is Berlin-based: a few international groups distribute their apps in Germany through a Berlin entity.

Games lead the list

Candy Crush Saga (1B+ installs) and other Saga titles are distributed in the Play Store through a Berlin address of King. Behind them are studios founded in Berlin:

• Idle Miner Tycoon by Kolibri Games: 100M+, plus Idle Bank Tycoon at 10M+. Kolibri has been part of Ubisoft since 2020.
• Modern Ops by Edkon Games: 100M+, plus World War 2 and Tactical OPS.
• Zombie Catchers by Deca Games: 100M+.
• June's Journey by Wooga (owned by Playtika): 50M+.
• Colorscapes by Playflux: 50M+.
• Albion Online by Sandbox Interactive: 10M+.

The biggest non-game apps from Berlin

• SoundCloud: 100M+ installs.
• Zalando: 100M+.
• RAR (win.rar GmbH): 100M+.
• OneFootball, Clue, Babbel, Kleinanzeigen, AUTODOC and wetter.com: 50M+ each.
• Trade Republic, N26, GetYourGuide, HelloFresh, ImmoScout24, idealo, JustWatch, Knowunity, Blinkist, Ecosia and Freecash: 10M+ each.

The spread is the point: fintech, marketplaces, education, health and travel all have 10M+ apps built in Berlin. The city is not a one-category hub.

Which of them are hiring

Many of the biggest Berlin app companies hire continuously, and most of them work in English. This board lists open roles at, among others:

• N26, many in engineering
• GetYourGuide
• Freecash
• HelloFresh
• Trade Republic
• ImmoScout24
• Taxfix

Each company page shows how many roles it has open right now. Others on the list, such as SoundCloud or Babbel, have no roles in the hiring systems we can read right now. That changes quickly, and the board refreshes daily.

Why it matters if you are job hunting

An app used by tens of millions of people usually means real scale problems, A/B tests with statistical power and product decisions you can put numbers on in your CV. Berlin also has more open roles at app companies than any other German city, so more options to move (app jobs in Berlin), and more than half of the roles here are advertised in English.
